things I am excited for

  1. Mongolia! - About one month ago, I posted that I wasn't excited about leaving yet. Then about a week and a half ago, I posted about negative reactions I had gotten about Peace Corps and Mongolia. I was feeling rather discouraged, but I think after that I became more determined to find out more and really get into the preparation process. I am on the email list of a bunch of stores in order to hear about sales, looking into discounts on the wiki, getting back into reading people's blogs, and reading my Mongolia books. Only 128 days to go.
  2. Smartwool - This may seem silly, but I truly don't know how I've lived life without it. Sierra Trading Post was having a sale on Smartwool socks which finally arrived in the mail yesterday. I wore one pair today with boots that I normally wear two pairs with (and still have chilly toesies) and I barely noticed that it was cold out. Definitely a good choice for socks, now to get the long underwear....
  3. Updates to blogs I stalk on a regular basis - One fellow June nominee who I've been blog-chatting with is currently waiting for the blue packet to arrive sometime this week. Others I read a lot are packing up and leaving in the next couple weeks. I really like the PCJ community and am really grateful to whoever decided to create it.
  4. THIS. - In the spirit of getting back into the PCJ world, I logged on this morning and found a post asking where Asia invitees are. That's me, so obviously I had to check it out. Another future PCV is creating a project where around 25 volunteers in 25 countries send a journal around to each other and create a "snapshot" of our service at the time we have the journal. I'm pretty sure she's still looking for people so if you're interested let her know. ESPECIALLY if you're Pacific or Caribbean since I don't think there are either of those regions yet. C/SA, Asia, and EE could use a couple more too. Africa is pretty well covered, but of course welcome to join. I'm really excited to see how this turns out because I think it has a LOT of potential.
  5. Spring semester - Currently I'm at school for Winter Session, which is a short 5 week session where we can take 1-2 classes and get them out of the way without the stress of the regular semester. I'm currently bored out of my mind because homework is never assigned (weird to want homework, but there it is) and hardly anyone is around. Plus, once the semester gets started, I'm that much closer to graduation and Mongolia.
  6. Emails about comments on here - I realize this may sound like begging for comments a la myspace, but really it's not, promise. It really is exciting to get emails saying someone left a comment. I know sometimes I have thoughts on what other people write but don't submit them (sometimes I even have them all typed out) because I feel weird. So really, feel more than free. It'll make me feel less weird about commenting on yours.
