Well dear friends, it has been about a month since my last post. So not too much has been going on. But it is now early October which is another month closer to my potential leave date of early June. In between my heavy television schedule (and schoolwork too, I suppose), I have begun my intense speculation on where I will be spending over two years of my life in less than a year. So many prepositional phrases in that last sentence. Intense.
The Peace Corps Wiki is a blessing for all applicants/nominees wanting to know everything about anything. A few especially lovely pages which I stalk on a regular basis are the Timeline, Departure by Month, and Calculator pages. Basically I figure out when each country will potentially leave, then use the calculator to figure out what my chances are. The only problem is that with a nomination of Asia/Central Asia, I'm not sure if that includes the Caucasus. I hope it does, one of those would be wonderful. Also, the Calculator is flawed and doesn't include Central/Western Asia in its "Asia (all)" category. Whatever.
So here's what I've come up with:
1. Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Thailand, and Turkmenistan have not left in June (at least not in the past 5 years)
2. Thailand already has an invite for January 2011, so it's definitely out.
3. Azerbaijan left in June in 2006 and 2007, but has left in September ever since
4. China has left in June for the past five years, but usually at the end of the month. I'm leaning towards not finding it as likely, but can't discount it completely.
5. Georgia left in early June from 2006-09, but then this year left in April instead. So who knows where they stand. I'm hoping it's on the table, I'd love to go to Georgia
6. Mongolia left in early June the past two years, but has left in May and July also.
7. The Peace Corps could still send me anywhere in the EMA (Europe, Mediterranean, and Asia) region and I haven't given any serious consideration to those countries.
Conclusion:
I have absolutely no idea where I'll be placed. Most likely? Mongolia, Georgia, maybe China if it leaves early rather than late. All I know is I'll be stalking the Wiki, pretty much daily, to see when Asian countries post invites for times other than early June so I can cross them off my list of potentials.
[EDIT] Kazakhstan, which usually leaves in August just got invited for March. MY WORLD IS COMPLETELY UPSIDE DOWN
You know, if you're scheduled to leave early june, it's more like 8 months rather than 9! And since it's been two weeks since this post, it's like 7.5 months!
