The day after I got the email saying my application had been reactivated, I got my first email from my recruiter. He sent me a bunch of forms to fill out and instructions on what's coming up next. He also sent the Assignment Area sheets which have descriptions of the work areas I'm most qualified for. Somehow they thought I was qualified for Business Advising.... yeah not so much. Health extension I'm qualified for because of my lifeguarding certifications. Then I'm most qualified for Secondary English Education. So I have a feeling that [provided I get a nomination/invite] I'll be working in Secondary English Ed.
Then on Monday, I got the packet in the mail with the other forms: fingerprint cards, background check form, and a letter from the recruiting office. Filling those out were so exciting. My dad and I went to the State Trooper barracks that day and I got fingerprinted. He was a very nice man and told me all about how the son of the mechanic for the barracks is in the Peace Corps in Africa.
i finally got around to mailing everything in today. When I got to the post office, the lady behind the counter just shook her head and said, "Peace Corps? Another crazy young American.." Then went on to explain her daughter wants to apply too and go to Africa. But unfortunately when I emailed in the forms that didn't have to be sent via snail mail, I got an "out of office" response from my recruiter so I won't hear anything back from him until Tuesday. The bonus to that is he will most likely get the letter and the email around the same time which will reduce my anxiety. Only a little bit though. I'll probably spend the next few days stalking the applicant blogs.
