I wish the Olympics started earlier over there in Vancouver because by the time anything interesting happens, it's time for me to go to sleep. Sadly, the US is failing a lot. Currently we're on top of the medal count, but ughh do better! There's a channel over here called Eurosport which is showing the coverage 24/7 but they have a really strange way of choosing what they show. I've seen the entirety of all the biathlon events multiple times, but they pick and choose which speed skating heats and which pairs from figure skating they show. Then if you go to the official Vancouver 2010 website, you can get live results which is pretty awesome. A big downside is they have a feed of Facebook statuses on the side which I assume is an attempt to encourage friendly competition and see who everyone is cheering for. Let's just say there's a lot of anti-American hate going on there and it makes me sad. Just because people don't like our politics doesn't mean they have to be mean to our athletes! (Cold War much?)
Today I finally had a chat with Sascha. To be completely honest, I'd been a little bratty/petty about the whole situation because when I get upset I shut down, whiiich basically means I gave them the silent treatment. It went better than I expected it would. I explained the concept of small meals every four hours and how since I eat lunch around noon and we don't eat dinner until around 8, I basically die. I think when I asked about snacks between lunch and dinner she thought I meant junk food. Nope, I'm just hungry. And oranges don't quite cut it.
Allan FINALLY agreed to do something about the internet. For some reason he thought the internet was just low signal, not low quality. A lot of our problems have been communication, this one I was very clear on. I've explicitly told them for a month now that the internet is very slow, I can't load my email, and I can't load my homework. How that's not serious, I'm not sure. But he said he's going to look into bringing home an ethernet cord from work so I can actually do productive things. Like my 10 page research paper due in a week that we just found out about on Monday. Good times.
Hopefully things will get better now and I won't be as miserable. Or hungry. They know now to give me a few days to get my thoughts together when I'm upset so things might not be so awkward when I do get frustrated. Fingers crossed anyway.
Some good news though! This week is called week 7 in Denmark and it's the week where all the schools have off and families go on vacation. My friend Kristie's family is leaving for London tomorrow and don't want her to be alone in the house for the rest of the week. Soo I'm going to be basically moving in over there for a few days. Even if things are going better with my family, it'll still be nice to get away. We're going to have macaroni and cheese and bagels and be very happy American kids :)
ALSO today was the first day of my class to prepare us for going to Russia during travel break! We already filled out visa applications and sent in our passports (can't believe I forgot to write about this) so I'm passport-less for another week or so. The professor is really energetic and really into Russia which will hopefully counteract all of the frustration I've built up from Russian classes these past three years and make me really interested in it again. Plus there's a crash course in Russian. While I'm not looking forward to sitting in a room with a bunch of American students trying to figure out all the vowels and the painful difference between ш and щ, getting a review of the basic travel vocabulary will definitely be good for me. Especially if I get that scholarship to Russia this summer. SO much studying to do.
