final review already?

So I'm pretty sure my recruiter put a gold star or something on my file. I'm not sure why, but I am speeding through this process. I was sitting at my desk contemplating what to eat for dinner and what to teach during my tutoring lesson later (both have to be done in less than two hours. whoops) when the gmail notification came up. I figured it was something from school because it's almost time for finals and they're pretty much spamming me. Nope. Subject: Peace Corps Application. That could either be very good or very bad. I've noticed with the Peace Corps, there really isn't ever any middle ground.

Open it up: "Hi Ashley, I hope you are doing well. I am the Placement and Assessment Specialist responsible for conducting a final review of your application." Holy crap. She sent me a bunch of questions I have to answer in order to help her review. Does this mean I might know before Christmas? Maybe even before the end of the semester? If yes, I'll take it. I don't understand why my file is getting looked at so much earlier than everyone still waiting for invitations for January - March, but again, I'll take it.

Does anyone know how long it takes between answering these questions (assuming I do so satisfactorily) and whatever the next step is? I don't even know what the next step is.

  1. Congrats! I will tell you that after the final questions were sent to me, I had an invite in a few days (after I responded of course). Not to say this is going to happen to you, but it's definitely a good place to be!

I have no idea why they might be contacting you so early. Did they include a question asking if you were still available for your current nomination?

All I can think is that maybe there is an earlier Asia leave date they are trying to fill and maybe they are considering you for it? Or can you not leave yet because of school?

Who knows ... just be thankful! You're almost there!

  2. Ohh an invite in a few days would be beyond fabulous (just submitted my responses). They asked if I'm still available for early June 2011 and said that's what I'm being considered for. Since I graduate at the end of May, that's the absolute earliest I can leave anyway. It's definitely weird since every communication I've had with the PC has said I shouldn't have even gotten to Medical until January. But yeah, I'm definitely thankful :)

  3. What kind of questions did they ask in the email? for your final questions?

  4. Hm let's see.. *checking email* How I'd been preparing, what prompted me to apply, if I'd talked to any RPCVs about any potential challenges, response of family and friends, how I'd feel being isolated from other volunteers, and if my availability was still the same. Pretty basic questions. Hope this helps! Good luck :)
